Lucy and Harry

She tolerates him well we think.

Harry watching television...

Relaxing......watching a little PBS........Tavis Smilley.

Harrison's new hat

Nothing really to say, but "Look at him in his little hat!!!" Ridiculous.

bbq with uncle Randy

Had a nice Sunday evening with Uncle Randy, his girlfriend Ellen, and his best friend Tony. The bbq took a little longer than normal, because the propane tank was running on fumes, but we ate 45 minutes later. Grilled chicken paillard, asparagus, and bread should normally take 10 minutes. After eating we played some high stakes poker!! $1 dollar buy-in's. With the winner taking home a whopping $4 bucks, and second place $1 dollar. Uncle Randy won! Matt came in second, and I came in third. Darn it!! I wanted to win!!!!

From The White House Greetings Office

Harrison's White House Birth Announcement arrived!!! Thanks Barack and Michelle. Wait I mean, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for signing (signing a electronic computer pin pad) my birth announcement. Yay! Harrison's now on the White House US birth log in the Greetings Dept.

Harry's Harvest

Harvested our first batch of peas from our small backyard garden. After boiling, puree'ing, and cooling Harry's peas I dipped my finger in the peas to let him taste. He seemed to like them, but then again he puts everything in his mouth and enjoys it.

07/20/12....

We know that this blog is suppose to provide updates about the distads, but we'd like to express how truly sorry we feel for anyone affected by the shootings that took place in the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Co. Batman was suppose to entertain the public, and now has made the public fearful of it's existence all because of one mans violent act. 59 people injured, and 12 killed. Why? It will be years before, or if ever we know why James Holmes did this. It's just really upsetting, and now we're asking if you see someone acting strange, talk to them. Sometimes that's all it takes to change someones mind.

Harry in the Rose Garden

Washington Park's full of different things to do and view. Today we took a stroll in the Rose Garden.

The morning started out slow. Both Matt and I didn't go to bed last night until 3am, and Harrison had us up bright and early at 7am. With little sleep I mentioned we should get up and head to Washington Park. I wanted to hangout, eat breakfast, and take some pictures before the heat kicked in. As you recall from previous posts, we don't do well in the sun (the distads have winter bodies remember). Getting ready to leave the house now takes much longer than 25 minutes. Two hours later we head out the door and loaded ourselves up in the mazda. Right before we pull out of the driveway I realize I've forgotten to pack a receiving blanket. Matt heads back inside, but was stopped at the door. His damn key sticks in the lock, and a very adult Matthew has a very adult tantrum. Kicking the door and tugging at his keys he yells something I can't hear, because the car windows are up. After inside a minute he returns to the car blanketless. Since he can't find a receiving blanket I calmly tell him where to locate one. He heads back inside and he does indeed return with a blanket, but it's one of the blankets thats shrunk in the wash. With rage pulsing through MJ body I decide that maybe I should go inside and grab a blanket. With blanket in hand I retun to the car to see MJ trying to sooth a crying HD. I take the keys from MJ and tell him to sit in the passenger seat so I can drive. Maybe he'll relax??? Nope. He's pissed. I suggest that he stay home, and his answer is, "No." Ok, this days going to suck. As we approach HWY 26 I ask if we should visit some friends in the city? "No. I don't feel like being social." Alrightie. Awwwww......I got it! MJ needs coffee. I ask would you like some coffee? "No." Whatever???? Yes he does or this days really going to suck! I pull off onto the 185th exit, and he asks, "Where are you going?" "to get you some coffee." "I don't need it." "yes you do." Once his coffee was ordered the drivethru barista felt like chit chatting. He asked, "Hows you morning going?" My reply, "Not good." His reaction was one of confussion. I'm guessing no ones every said anything other than "good" to him. He then scrambles and says, "Well. The clouds should clear soon, and it should be a nice hot day." My reply, "Oh. Thats to bad. We don't like hot weather." "Oh. Well. I hope the clouds don't clear then." and he hands us our coffee. As we drive away MJ takes his first sip, and laughs about my conversation with the young Starbucks employee. I knew all he needed was coffee.

Once at the park our stroll was lovely. We stopped and smelled the roses. (hahahaha)

On the roof repainting the second story window.

I was up there awhile listening to my ipod. I now recall why my ears hurt. When one's not used to using ear buds, having said ear buds in for two hours will cause ear discomfort.

past two weekends

Forgot to mention the last weekend in June Harrison got to hang out with Aunt Julianne in Salem all day long so mom and dad could go to a wedding. Mom had to photograph the event, while dad was able to hang out with unkie Trevor (and toss back a few brews). Thanks Aunt Julianne for taking care of Harrison.

Last week unkie Tyson & Maria along with Tyson's parents Bruce & Susie came to visit. Bruce and Susie also came bearing gifts. Thanks for the blankets!  Tyson fed Harrison, and looked as though he enjoyed it. Maria scooped HD right up as soon as he started fussing. We enjoyed an evening in the backyard hanging out on the patio. Thanks for stopping by!

BBQ at Rick & Pat Schulbergs over the weekend. The entire Schulberg family was there. Kids galore. It was neat to see what size Harrison will be in a month from now, and three months from now. The Schulberg's really know how to make you feel comfortable. Even when it's 90 degrees. Harrison was able to hangout with his unofficial grammies and his unkie Chris (Griff) & auntie Jami.

One note: Harrison does not do well in the heat. "And the heat! My God the heat!" - Elaine.

Tributes!

Our favorite sandwich place re-opended in it's new location today. Oh how we missed their chicken philly and italian turkey sandwiches. Our stomachs are now fully satisfied. HD liked the place too. With the new location comes new paint. It was a visual spectacle for Harry.

baby's first independence day

The day started with a phone call from uncle Randy letting us know that he wouldn't be joining us for a day of 4th fun. So...MJ and I we're like........hmmmmmm.....what to do? I know! I scooped up my blackberry to call Allison to see if she & Blake were interested in coming over for a bbq and afterwards a drive up to Council Crest to view fireworks from afar. She was totally down with the plan.

Before our evening of fun, we headed to the Homedepot to buy Harrison his very own air conditioner. Yay for a cool house!!!!!! After that purchase we stopped at New Seasons to pick up chicken wings and steak for the bbq. Chicken wings, because I know Matt and Allison love them (and they're crazy cheap), and steak because both Blake and I enjoy a yummy steak.

The bbq: Discovered wings need to grill on a low temp to avoid burnage. Also! Blake and Allison dislike wings, but love buffalo wings sauce! But, they were good sports and ate the burnt wings, which they said were tasty. The steak was..........mmmmmmmmmmmm. And Matt......he loved it all. Harrison chilled with Allison's dogs, and ate milk.

Council Crest park was pretty. You could see Mt. Saint Helens, Adams, and Hood. As the sun set the Vancouver skyline lit up with fireworks. Allison's dogs chomped on mosquitoes, and let strangers pet them. Harrison cried, ate, and pooped. Once Portlands "Big Show" started at ten. We sadly realized we were not going to view it, because their was a very large group of trees blocking the view. It was getting cold, so we all decided to call it a night.

A night Matt and I ended by stopping in Beaverton for donunts.

photos taken by Allison and copied from her FB page. Thanks Allison for taking pictures!

31 days old

The Distad house is currently counting two timelines. One is a given: Harrison's age; Two is how many days until Matt sabbatical? Answers: 31 & 14.

We thought about throwing him a little one month old birthday party, but we're to tired to do so. Yesterday, day 30 was jam packed. HD met with the ENT specialist and was given a clean bill of health. No surgery needed! He also visited the pediatrician about his rash (as seen in images below), and we were given instructions to slather him with Aquaphor and a prescriptive cream. Have to say, "His rash is fading. Oh how do I love western medicine." :) We also visited Costco, and ate dinner at New Season. Another fun filled day in HD's life.

Now enjoy HD at 31 days old.

mailing announcements

Mailed birth announcements last week to friends and family. oh yeah!!!!!!!..........and the White House. That's right, little baby HD will receive an official Presidential congratulation from our first African American President. Mr. Barack Obama. Pretty neat~o!
